Vienna International Airport is widely recognised as the only airport in Central Europe, combining a dense route network with a perfect infrastructure, awarded guidance system and a constant growing transfer function between Western and Eastern Europe.

In 2006 around 64 airlines at Vienna International Airport offered flights to more than 176 destinations (scheduled traffic) all over the world, thereof to 45 destinations in Eastern Europe – more than any other airport in Europe’s western hemisphere.

Almost 16.9 Million passengers in 2006 could enjoy a wide range of facilities such as automatic check-in counters and state-of-the-art fully automatic baggage sorting system providing quick and efficient passenger-handling procedures. Short distances between check-in and gate areas allow shortest transfer times.

Vienna International Airport guarantees a 25 minutes minimum connecting time which is one of the shortest amongst European airports.

Due to the steady growth in the last years and very positive forecasts Vienna International Airport has developed expansion plans for the coming years. Within the next few years, the new high-tech terminal skylink will be built and in 2008 the airport will have a capacity up to 24 million passengers. This project creates a centralised focal point between the existing facilities and the new pier and also provides easy access to railway connections, car parks and the developing airport city. The one-roof concept establishes not only a functional but also a visual link between the existing and new sections of the building, and provides passengers with a broad overview, which allows for fast and easy orientation in the building.
