Croatia Airlines operated the longest flight in the company’s history and landed in China for the first time
Coordinated jointly by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Croatian flag carrier Croatia Airlines and the Ban Tours travel agency, a commercial repatriation flight between Zagreb and Tianjin, a Chinese city approximately one hundred kilometres away from Beijing, was operated today.
Croatia Airlines’ Airbus 320 aircraft took off for Tianjin this morning at 1 o’clock flying a group of 120 young Chinese athletes from Peking University who were staying in Croatia. This was the longest flight in the history of Croatia Airlines (almost 8000 kilometres long), with a stopover made in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, which ended with the first ever landing of Croatia’s flag carrier airline in China (at 1 pm Croatia time).
Flying Croatian and European Union nationals from China to Zagreb, the return flight was operated on Saturday, 18th July 2020, with a stopover again made in Nur-Sultan.
Given the conditions created by the global epidemiological crisis, this demanding project was carefully planned and successfully completed with great support provided by the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in the People’s Republic of China, which is yet another confirmation of the successful and continued efforts made by Croatia’s diplomatic and consular network at repatriating not only Croatia’s nationals, but also the nationals of other countries. By having chartered these repatriation flights, this project was greatly contributed to by the Ban Tours travel agency, whose professional staff with many years of experience in air transport and in chartering flights provided a key prerequisite for the completion of this project.
