Lisbon in the Croatia Airlines' network of destinations for the first time
Lisbon, 23 May 2016
Croatia Airlines, Croatian flag carrier and member of Star Alliance, has included Lisbon in its destinations network in regular international traffic for the first time in the company’s history, which was marked today with a ceremonial flight on the regular Zagreb – Lisbon route carrying 97 passengers.
By the end of October this year, passengers will be able to choose one of three flights per week between the Croatian capital and the westernmost capital in continental Europe – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
- We are delighted that Lisbon is now included in our network of flights, which comprises 35 destinations this year. We hope that our flights will be recognized as the fastest and most preferred connection by the citizens of Lisbon and numerous visitors from your country. Also, we are pleased to bring the natural, cultural and historical beauties of Lisbon and Portugal closer to Croatian citizens. We are convinced that direct air connections, three times a week, will foster business cooperation between our countries and strengthen our friendly bonds, said Krešimir Kučko, President and CEO of Croatia Airlines, during a ceremony organized at Lisbon Airport, which was held after the ceremonial flight.
- What unites Trg Bana Jelačića to Rossio Square? Well, a unique serenity, a lifestyle as elegant, as sincere, made upon centuries of history and a modern trend marked by an inspiring rhythm. The distance between Lisbon and Zagreb is nearly 3,000 km. But, from the sky this distance is meaningless, especially now that Croatia Airlines is uniting us, said Lisbon Airport Director, João Nunes.
- The Portuguese and Croatians met on their long sea voyages through centuries, trading and exchanging their knowledge and achievements in all segments of life and in pursuit of a better life. That is why today is such an important event because it represents the beginning of an "aerial" bridge between Portugal and Croatia, at the era of global economy and the effort of our economic diplomacy to strengthen and speed up the close links between our two countries. We wish Croatia Airlines a safe and happy "sailing", and their passengers to enjoy the beauties of Portugal and Croatia, said Croatian Ambassador to Portugal, Mr Ivica Maričić.
This year, in regular international traffic, Croatia Airlines will directly connect Croatia to 35 destinations in 20 European countries and, in cooperation with our partners from Star Alliance, with the entire world.
In addition to Lisbon, this season’s tourist package offers direct flights from Zagreb to Prague, Milan and St. Petersburg, which makes the company an even stronger contributor to the development of tourism in the Republic of Croatia.
Croatia Airlines’ fleet comprises twelve aircraft – two Airbus 320s, four Airbus 319s and six turboprop aircraft Dash 8 – Q400.
