Croatia Airlines and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board signed collaboration agreement
Croatia’s flag carrier continues to operate flights between Rijeka and Munich during the winter months as well
27th October 2022, Rijeka – Croatia Airlines and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board signed a collaboration agreement today in Rijeka, pertaining to the promotion of direct international flights operated by Croatia’s flag carrier on the Rijeka-Munich route in the 2022/2023 winter timetable.
The agreement was signed by the Director of the Commercial Division at Croatia Airlines, Slaven Žabo, and the CEO of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board, Irena Peršić Živadinov, PhD, in the presence of the Prefect of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Zlatko Komadina.
In the upcoming winter timetable (i.e., in the period from the beginning of November 2022 to mid-January 2023), Croatia’s flag carrier is continuing to operate flights on the international Rijeka-Munich route. The Rijeka-Munich route is a scheduled seasonal route which was reintroduced in the summer of 2021, and on which flights were operated during last year and this year’s tourist season. Thanks to the collaboration between Croatia Airlines and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board, passengers are now offered flights on this route during the winter timetable as well. Flights will be operated three times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, to be precise – aboard Dash 8-Q400 aircraft whose seating capacity is 76 passengers. Return air tickets for passengers flying on the Rijeka-Munich route are available from 149 euros at www.croatiaairlines.com.
– I would like to thank the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board for their support and understanding. I believe that our joint product will be recognised by many both Croatian and German visitors. Within the framework of our joint product, we’re now offering direct flights between the region of Kvarner and the German market for the first time during the winter period as well. It is a widely known fact that the region of Kvarner is one of the most popular destinations in Croatia for German tourists. Extending the operation of seasonal flights on this route represents added value for passengers from this part of Croatia as well, because in the winter period they’ll be able to travel directly to Germany or, via Munich, to more than 150 destinations around the world. We’re also glad that, in this way, as Croatia’s flag carrier, we’re also contributing to the development of the potential of the region of Kvarner and the city of Rijeka as a tourist destination, as well as strengthening the operations of Rijeka Airport – said Slaven Žabo, Director of the Commercial Division at Croatia Airlines, at the signing of the agreement.
– With two, very challenging pandemic years behind us, the reintroduction of year-round flights between Munich and Rijeka was one of our goals that was set after a series of meetings that we held last year at the initiative of our Tourist Council with representatives of the tourism industry. It was at these meetings that, in collaboration with representatives of the tourism industry, we decided which market we have the greatest interest in establishing flights to and from. We’re very glad that, in its role as Croatia’s flag carrier, Croatia Airlines accepted our proposal, and that, thanks to our collaboration and joint efforts, we will ensure direct flights between our county and the capital of Bavaria until mid-January 2023. As far as our region is concerned, Germany is a major emissive market from which more than 30% of our total tourist revenue is generated. It is also worth highlighting that, compared to the record year of 2019, guests from Germany continue to hold first place, and currently generate 13% more overnight stays. Because Munich Airport is a transport hub from which flights are available to 150 destinations around the world, having a direct connection to Munich Airport is all the more important given that direct flights to and from Munich make our region even more accessible to guests from all over the world – said the CEO of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board, Irena Peršić Živadinov, PhD.
– I’m glad that Croatia’s flag carrier has recognised the importance of maintaining direct weekly, scheduled flights to the capital of Bavaria and Munich Airport during the winter months. I am happy that we reached an agreement, which resulted in today’s signing of this Collaboration Agreement between Croatia Airlines and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County Tourist Board. The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is one of Croatia’s leading tourist regions; moreover, we’re a destination that has all the prerequisites for the development of year-round tourism. Direct flights to a major emissive market of ours will make the region of Kvarner even more accessible to German guests. Many Germans have real estate in our county, houses, boats, and apartments, as well as hotels and entire hotel chains, companies or business interests. I believe that they, too, will welcome the idea of having direct flights to Rijeka Airport available to them three times a week. As for our passengers, a connection with Munich Airport, from which direct flights are available to as many as 150 destinations around the world, this is a great advantage. I hope to see flights from Rijeka Airport operated by Croatia Airlines throughout the entire year, and that we’ll have the opportunity to expand our partnership with Croatia’s flag carrier – said the Prefect of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, Zlatko Komadina.
